Crispy, golden shrimp balls tossed in a tangy-sweet sauce—this Sweet and Sour Prawns recipe is the perfect balance of crunch, heat, and umami. A quick and easy dish that pairs perfectly with steamed rice or noodles!




For the Shrimp Mixture

  • 2 cups shrimp, minced

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce

  • 1 tablespoon corn flour

  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

  • 1 egg

  • 1 teaspoon cooking oil

For the Sauce

  • ¾ cup ketchup

  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar

  • ½ cup water

  • 1 tablespoon sugar

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

For Cooking

  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil

  • ½ cup red onion, sliced

  • ½ cup cucumber, diced

  • 4-5 green chilies, sliced

  • 1 tablespoon corn starch

  • 2 tablespoons water

For Garnish

  • 1 tablespoon green onions, chopped




Instructions


1. Prepare the Shrimp Mixture

  • Finely mince the shrimp and add it to a bowl.

  • Mix in salt, pepper, soy sauce, corn flour, all-purpose flour, egg, and cooking oil.

  • Stir until it forms a thick, dough-like consistency.

2. Fry the Shrimp Balls

  • Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).

  • Scoop about 1 tablespoon of the shrimp mixture and carefully drop it into the oil.

  • Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per batch. Remove and drain on a paper towel.

3. Make the Sauce

  • In a separate pan, heat 2 tablespoons of cooking oil over medium heat.

  • Sauté red onion for a minute, then add the fried shrimp balls, cucumber, and green chilies.

  • In a small bowl, mix cornstarch and water until smooth, then add it to the pan along with the sauce ingredients.

  • Stir well and cook for 2 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the shrimp.

4. Serve and Garnish

  • Remove from heat and garnish with chopped green onions.

  • Serve hot with steamed rice or noodles.
