Street Style Veg Momo Recipe

Ingredients:

  • Cabbage: 3½ cups, finely chopped

  • Salt: ½ tsp (for cabbage) + more to taste (for filling)

  • Maida/AP Flour: 1½ cups

  • Additional Salt: ¼ tsp (for dough)

  • Lukewarm Water: ½ cup + 1 tbsp as needed

  • Red and Yellow Bell Pepper/Capsicum: ¼ cup each, finely chopped

  • Green Beans: ¼ cup, finely chopped

  • Carrot: ¼ cup, finely chopped

  • Ginger: 1 tsp, finely chopped

  • Pepper: ¼ tsp

  • Garam Masala: ½ tsp

  • Coriander: 2 tbsp, chopped

  • Sugar or MSG: A big pinch

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Cabbage:

    • Combine the finely chopped cabbage with ½ tsp of salt in a bowl. Gently press to help draw out moisture. Let it rest for 10 minutes.

  2. Make the Dough:

    • In a separate bowl, mix the maida with ¼ tsp salt. Gradually add lukewarm water (starting with ½ cup and adding 1 tbsp as needed) to form a smooth dough, similar to what you would prepare for roti. Knead for 4-5 minutes for best results.

    • Cover the dough with a damp cloth and set aside.

  3. Prepare the Filling:

    • Squeeze out most of the water from the cabbage and discard it (or use it in another dish, like veg curry).

    • Mix the cabbage with the chopped bell peppers, green beans, carrot, ginger, pepper, salt to taste, garam masala, coriander, and a pinch of sugar or MSG. Set aside.

  4. Shape the Momos:

    • Roll out the momo dough to your desired thickness on a lightly floured surface. Apply a thin layer of oil and a sprinkle of flour over the dough to prevent the momos from sticking to each other.

    • Use a cookie cutter to cut circles from the dough.

    • Place about 1 tbsp of the vegetable filling onto each dough circle. Use your thumb to start pinching and guiding the dough to seal the momos, creating creases as shown in your tutorial video.

  5. Steam the Momos:

    • Grease the surface of your steamer with oil. Arrange the momos in the steamer.

    • Bring the water in the steamer to a boil, then place the momos on the steaming tray. Cover and steam for 10-12 minutes.

    • Let the momos sit in the steamer with the lid on for an additional 2 minutes after turning off the heat to prevent them from shrinking.

  6. Serve:

    • Serve the momos hot with your favorite momo chutney or enjoy them as they are.

This recipe offers a delightful way to enjoy the traditional flavors of momos with a homemade touch, complete with step-by-step instructions to ensure perfect results every time. Enjoy cooking!
